Consumer Team: “Cop Cameras Gone Wild”

(DALLAS-FT. WORTH, TX)   Everywhere you go these days, there’s a camera.   At a stoplight, at the neighborhood 7-11, in schools, hospitals and churches.   Thanks to falling prices in high-tech, video cams  and the the video footage they record, are now available to the police and, in some cases, other individuals that might surprise you.    According to Consumer Team talk radio host Pete Thomson, consumers need to be very aware of privacy issues related to video surveillance.   Thomson said, “This is yet another form of digital snooping that, if not addressed, can be very damaging to our privacy and our liberty.”

Consumer Team: Don’t Overpay for Hearing Aids

(DALLAS-FT. WORTH, TX)   Consumer advocate Pete Thomson says he was blown away when he investigated the prices of hearing aids.   “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.  A pair of hearing aids could cost as much as a car.”    The prices he found motivated Thomson to look deeper into how the hearing aid business operated.  Thomson will report the results of his findings on The Consumer Team, Saturday, April 5th on 1080 KRLD Radio.

Hearing Aid Pricing - The Consumer Team Investigates

Hearing Aid Pricing – The Consumer Team Investigates

“It just didn’t make sense,” Thomson continued, “The prices for electronics are generally falling.   Smart phones, printers, laptops and tablets are getting cheaper while hearing aids still often cost a fortune.  Hearing aids are really not that complicated.  They consist of a speaker, microphone, amplifier and a power source.”   What Thomson found was a consumer world full of middlemen who called themselves specialists.  “They’ve got all kinds of names from hearing specialist to hearing advocate.   Regardless of the title, the markup is significant and not a good deal, especially for older consumers who are often on a fixed income.”

The Consumer Team hearing aid segment will include recommendations for businesses that feature fair pricing on hearing aids.  Thomson said, “If a consumer will shop around, they can find quality without paying too much.  We’ll be talking about several hearing aid outlets that offer quality products, competitive pricing as well as expert consultation.”

The Consumer Team is broadcast Saturdays from 5-7PM (Central) on CBS Radio’s 1080 KRLD in Dallas.  The Consumer Team is one of the most listened to locally produced consumer advocacy programs in the nation.   The Consumer Team is produced by McQ Media, Dallas, Texas.

Hearing Aids: Why So Expensive?

(DALLAS, TX)      Americans spend billions annually on technology designed to improve hearing.  And as baby boomers have become candidates for hearing aids, there are more makes and models than ever before.   The price on custom hearing aids can exceed that of a new car.   On Saturday, February 16, 2013, The Consumer Team radio program will air a special segment focusing on getting a better value on hearing aids.  The Consumer Team is broadcast from 5-7PM (Central) on 1080 KRLD Radio, Dallas-Ft. Worth.

Saving Money on Hearing Aids: The Consumer Team Investigates

According to Consumer Team host Pete Thomson, the goal of the segment is to educate the consumer regarding the choices that exist in the marketplace.  Thomson commented, “My dad recently spent a considerable sum of money on hearing aids.  His experience put this category on my personal radar.  When I did some investigation into the hearing aid industry I was amazed to see how expensive the devices are.  Hearing aids can cost more than a car.”  Thomson added that the pricing in the hearing aid industry didn’t make sense to him.   He continued, “The high prices of hearing aids run contrary to the price trend for other technology.   Think about it, generally the prices for technology such as cell phones, computers and other electronics is dropping.  The pricing model for hearing aids make no sense, especially when you consider that the device basically consists of a speaker, microphone and an amplifier.  It should be going down and not up.”

Thomson says that The Consumer Team will have good news for consumers.  Thomson said, “Like all consumer items, if you search, there are ways to get a better value for your dollar.  On The Consumer Team we will talk about several sources that give consumers much more for their hearing aid dollar.”

Improving School Security: The Consumer Team Investigates

(DALLAS, TX)  In response to the mass shooting at a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school in December, The Consumer Team talk radio program will feature special segments addressing the issues surrounding the security of schools, churches, hospitals and malls.  On January 5, 2013 from 5-7PM 1080 KRLD Radio Dallas, The Consumer Team will air the first in the series of interviews.   Featured in the interview will be Jacob Savoie and Dave Jones from Enterprise Security Solutions of Texas (ESST).   Pete Thomson, executive producer and host of The Consumer Team, commented on the interview.  He stated, “Since the tragic shootings of December, many business leaders have been reassessing their own security systems and their ability to protect their employees, customers, students and patients.  The team from ESST are leaders in their field and will bring a very timely and valuable conversation to the airwaves of The Consumer Team on KRLD.”

ESST specializes in electronic security systems including the latest innovations in surveillance systems and other technology.   Their clients include The Gaylord Texan, Denton Regional Hospital, Crowley ISD and CIGNA Healthcare.   Their management has extensive experience in security, personal protection and law enforcement including The FBI.  According to Thomson, “After the tragic shooting in Connecticut, we focused on finding the company that provided security to the leaders in business and education.  The client list of ESST is very impressive.  This company is one of the best in the US.”

Thomson added that the current state of security in school systems is not strong.  While some schools have enhanced their systems over the last several years, he says there are still significant problems.  Thomson added, “You can’t just put up a few cameras with a monitor in the front office and consider a school secure.  One of the primary goals of security enhancement has to be an earlier recognition of a problem in addition to stronger systems of security enforcement and response under duress.  Simply put, based on the information we have, it’s clear that our schools are not well protected.”

According to Thomson, The Consumer Team security segments will be valuable to not only educators but also anyone who needs to protect a customer or employee.  “We’ll be talking about best practices for security that can be utilized in schools, businesses, churches and any other public place.  We’ll also address the biggest security and protection mistakes that companies make every day.”
